Terms of Service
Effective Date: June 2, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to TRIM. By creating an account or using any part of the TRIM service (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. Who Can Use TRIM
You must be at least 13 years old to use TRIM. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.
You may not use the Service if you have previously been suspended or removed, or if your use violates any applicable law or regulation.
3. Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. Notify us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.
You may sign up using an email address or via third-party authentication providers (currently Google). Your email address serves as your unique account identifier and cannot be changed after registration.
Passwords must be at least 8 characters long and include at least one letter and one number. We do not enforce additional complexity rules beyond this minimum.
You may not create accounts for others without their permission or create multiple accounts to evade enforcement actions.
4. The TRIM Service
TRIM is a decision-support platform with two complementary surfaces:
Roundtable (community-decision surface). You post a "Decision Post" and invite others to vote. A post can be single-question (2–5 options) or multi-question ("multi-poll", available on paid plans). Posts may include optional deadlines, link attachments, and Voter Attributes (per-option labels voters can apply to indicate stance or sentiment).
To-decide list (personal workspace). You keep decisions private to yourself, with tools to think them through: a per-decision time budget, deadlines, sub-decisions (chunking), a gut-check prompt, a criteria-based comparison matrix, and in-app notifications when a deadline approaches.
Other shared features include:
- Cross-device sync — your to-decide list follows you across signed-in devices
- Optional Voter Profile fields (gender, age, nationality, residence, occupation) used to power Trimmed Insights — demographic breakdowns of votes shown to post authors on paid plans
- Suggesting alternative options on open-ended Decision Posts
- Announcing the final winning option to voters who participated
- Saving ("scrapping") posts for future reference
- In-app notifications for deadlines, decision announcements, and TRIM time
Some features are available only under paid subscription plans. See Section 7 for details.
5. User-Generated Content
You retain ownership of the content you post to TRIM ("User Content"), including Decision Posts, option titles, and body text. By posting User Content, you grant TRIM a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute that content solely to operate and improve the Service.
You agree not to post content that:
- Is unlawful, defamatory, abusive, or harassing
- Contains hate speech targeting any person or group
- Is sexually explicit or involves minors in any inappropriate way
- Infringes any third-party intellectual property rights
- Contains spam, malware, or deceptive links
- Impersonates another person or entity
- Solicits personal information from other users without authorization
TRIM reserves the right to remove any User Content that violates these Terms or that we determine, at our sole discretion, is otherwise harmful to the Service or its community.
6. Votes, Insights, and Public Visibility
Your votes are not anonymous internally — each vote is permanently linked to your account and recorded with a timestamp. What other people see depends on which surface they're looking at:
Publicly visible (including to search engines). Decision Posts (title, body, options) and their total vote counts appear on the public Roundtable feed and may be indexed by search engines such as Google. Your username is not shown next to individual votes on the feed, but the aggregate vote count is public.
Visible to the post author on a paid plan. Post authors with a Pro or Pro+ subscription can view Trimmed Insights — aggregated demographic breakdowns (e.g., "60% of voters aged 25–34 chose Option A") and the distribution of Voter Attributes voters applied. These are statistical aggregates, not individual vote records. With small voter pools, however, aggregate data may be inferential (e.g., if only one voter matches a demographic slice, that slice reveals their vote). If you don't want your votes counted toward demographic insights, leave the Voter Profile fields blank.
Visible to TRIM internally. TRIM has access to all vote records, profile data, and Voter Attribute selections for analytics, moderation, service integrity, and product improvement.
Voter Profile field rules. Profile data is optional. To preserve integrity of insights, edits are rate-limited:
- Gender, date of birth, and nationality can each be set up to two times total (initial set + one correction)
- Residence and occupation can each be updated once per 30 days
- Display name can be changed freely
- Clearing a field (setting it back to blank) does not consume an edit
7. Subscription Plans & Payments
TRIM offers the following plans:
- Free — Access to core voting and to-decide list features with standard limits
- Pro — Adds Trimmed Insights (demographic + Voter Attribute breakdowns of votes on your posts) and Voter Attributes on your own posts
- Pro+ — Adds extended character limits, up to 5 options per post, option detail text, image attachments on posts, and multi-question ("multi-poll") posts
Paid plans are billed monthly or annually via Stripe. Annual plans are charged in full upfront. Current pricing appears on the Plans page.
By subscribing, you authorize TRIM to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel. You may cancel at any time from Account Settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you will not receive a prorated refund for unused time unless required by applicable law.
TRIM reserves the right to change subscription pricing with at least 30 days' advance notice to existing subscribers.
Founding member offer. Early signups receive complimentary access to TRIM Pro for a limited time, assigned in order of completed signup, across three tiers:
- Lifetime Founding — first 100 completed signups: TRIM Pro free forever
- 2-Year Founding — next 200 completed signups (positions 101–300): TRIM Pro free for 2 years from signup completion
- 1-Year Founding — next 700 completed signups (positions 301–1,000): TRIM Pro free for 1 year from signup completion
Caps track active accounts only. If a founding account is deleted, the slot becomes available to the next signup. Once all 1,000 slots are filled, the offer closes and new signups follow standard plan rules. The founding benefit cannot be transferred between accounts.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any account or system
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or copy any part of the Service without permission
- Use automated tools (bots, scripts) to interact with the Service without our written consent
- Interfere with the integrity or performance of the Service
- Manipulate voting outcomes through fake accounts, coordinated inauthentic behavior, or other deceptive means
9. Reporting & Moderation
You may report content that violates these Terms using the report function within the app. Our team reviews reports and may remove content, issue warnings, or suspend accounts. We aim to review reports within a reasonable timeframe but cannot guarantee specific response times.
Decision Posts with a significant number of reports may be temporarily hidden from the feed pending review.
Post removal. When TRIM removes a Decision Post, the author receives an in-app notification stating the reason category (spam, inappropriate content, multiple reports, policy violation, or moderator decision). Removed posts are soft-deleted — they no longer appear in the feed but the underlying record is retained for moderation audit purposes.
Account suspension (ban). TRIM may suspend an account that violates these Terms. A suspended account is signed out automatically and cannot be used to sign in. The associated email address is added to a registration blocklist to prevent re-registration with the same address. Suspension reasons are categorized internally (e.g., spam, harassment, inappropriate content, multiple violations); the suspended user is notified that their account has been suspended and the broad reason category on the sign-in page.
Appeals. If you believe your account was suspended in error, you may contact us at support@trimdecisions.com. We will review appeals on a case-by-case basis but make no commitment to reverse moderation decisions.
10. Account Termination & Data Retention
Self-deletion. You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Before deletion, you may optionally provide a brief reason in the exit survey; this response is stored anonymously (not linked to your account) and is used solely for service improvement.
What is removed on deletion:
- Your profile information (display name, demographic fields)
- Your authentication record (email, password, session data)
- Your saved posts (scraps), notifications, and personal settings
- Your founding member slot, if applicable, becomes available to a new signup
What is retained on deletion:
- Decision Posts you created and votes you cast — these are anonymized (the author field reads as "Deleted user") but the content and vote counts remain visible to other users. This preserves the integrity of decisions other users participated in.
- Aggregated, non-personal usage data (e.g., total signups per day) used for service analytics.
If you require full deletion of your contributed posts and votes (e.g., under applicable privacy law), contact us at support@trimdecisions.com.
Termination by TRIM. TRIM may terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or if your account is inactive for an extended period. Termination by TRIM may include account deletion (same data treatment as self-deletion above) and email blocklisting.
11. Communications
By creating an account, you consent to receive transactional emails necessary to operate your account, including:
- Email address verification codes
- Password reset links
- Security notifications (e.g., suspicious sign-in attempts)
We may send occasional marketing or promotional emails (product updates, newsletter, announcements other than transactional). The Product updates toggle in Account Settings controls these. It is ON by default; you can turn it off at any time and we'll stop sending non-transactional mail immediately.
In-app notifications (e.g., post-removal notice, deadline reminders, decision announcements) are governed by your in-app notification preferences and are not affected by the email opt-in.
12. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. TRIM DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE FROM HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
TRIM is a community-driven platform. We do not endorse, verify, or take responsibility for any User Content, decisions made based on voting results, or outcomes resulting from use of the Service.
13. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TRIM AND ITS AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO TRIM IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (B) $100 USD.
14. Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall first be addressed through good-faith negotiation between the parties.
If a dispute cannot be resolved through negotiation, it shall be settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration shall take place by remote/video means unless both parties agree otherwise.
Class action waiver. To the extent permitted by law, you and TRIM agree that any dispute will be resolved on an individual basis and waive any right to bring or participate in a class action, collective action, or representative proceeding.
We may update this section as TRIM's business structure formalizes (e.g., upon formation of a US business entity, a specific state's law may apply).
